On 14 March, we were honoured to participate in the 23rd National Transport Forum, where we shared our strategies for improving operational efficiency, with a sustainability-based approach.
As a company awarded the “Lean and Green” star award, we are committed to improving operational efficiency in order to reduce emissions associated with the supply chain, to achieve the targets set at the Paris Climate Summit (COP21) carbon neutral emissions by 2050.
Our Logistics Operations Director, Cristina Cano, explained the measures and actions we are taking at J.Cano Transport to improve operational efficiency and, consequently, reduce emissions.
EFFICIENT DRIVING
One of the main areas we have focused on is efficient driving, recognizing that every action counts when it comes to reducing our environmental footprint. To achieve this, we have implemented a number of innovative and technological measures that are making a difference in our industry.
One of our projects is the collaboration with Michelin, leader in tyre solutions, through the “Smart Predictive Tire” solution which consists of the use of an advanced carpet in our operating bases. This carpet is a great preventive maintenance tool, which allows us to perform a tire check when our vehicles arrive at the base. This helps us identify and address any potential issues before they become a major concern.
We have also implemented a tyre monitoring system on the road that uses advanced sensors to measure temperature and pressure continuously. If any of these parameters go beyond what is set, automatic notifications are sent to our traffic department. This anticipation allows us to take preventive measures to prevent possible blowouts or other incidents, which not only increases safety but also reduces operating costs.
VOLVO CONNECT TECHNOLOGY
Another crucial aspect of our strategy is the use of technologies like Volvo Connect, which gives us a comprehensive view of our vehicles’ consumption and emissions. This platform allows us to identify areas of improvement and make informed decisions to reduce our environmental impact.
CONTINUING TRAINING
We have also developed a virtual classroom platform that offers continuous training to our drivers on best driving practices. This ‘Good Driver’s Manual’, available in audio format, enables our drivers to acquire important knowledge while on the road without compromising their free time. This initiative not only improves road safety, but also contributes to more efficient and sustainable driving.
REDUCTION OF UNLADEN KILOMETRES
Last but not least, our traffic team is committed to reducing empty kilometers, a major concern in our industry. We are currently working to reduce this figure, which is currently in the 7-11% range, by optimizing routes and implementing advanced tracking technologies.
We thank the AECOC Manufacturers and Distributors Association for making us participate in this important forum where we had the opportunity to share experiences with great professionals and companies in the sector.
We are committed to continuous innovation and the adoption of responsible practices that not only benefit our company, but also the environment and the communities we serve. In a world of constant change, we know that every step we take toward efficiency and sustainability brings us closer to a better future for all.
